Writing
PROOFred writes
copy for various pieces, including brochures and book reviews.
Data Entry and Word Processing
PROOFred offers
data entry and word processing services. We type manuscripts and reports,
format Microsoft Word and PowerPoint documents, and enter data in
Excel. For accurate, professional-looking documents and quick turnaround,
put your words in our hands.
How
We Do It
PROOFred works on your
project at your specified level of proofreading. We understand that, for
the most part, what you have written should not be changed, only improved.
We also understand that both time and money often dictate the level of proofreading
a project is given, which is why we offer the following two levels of proofreading
from which to choose:
Hard Copy or Electronic Proofreading
PROOFred proofreads
your project by either marking up the hard copy or making corrections
directly to the electronic file (redlining).
Standard proofreading marks are used
on the hard copy. Electronic files that you send to us as e-mail attachments
or mail to us on PC-formatted disks are redlined with our suggested
corrections and sent back to you via e-mail or disk. When you receive
the revised document, you view all the changes onscreen and accept
or reject each change as you see fit.
Attach the manuscript
file to your e-mail message or mail us the file on a PC-formatted
disk in one of the following formats:
Microsoft Word
WordPerfect
plain text, DOS text, encoded text, RTF, or ASCII
Tools of
the Trade
Our tools of the trade include:
- The Chicago
Manual of Style (14th ed.)
- The Elements
of Style (3d ed.)
- Merriam-Webster’s
Collegiate® Dictionary (10th ed.)
- Wired Style
- Webster's
New World Dictionary of Computer Terms (8th
ed.)
- Words Into
Type
- Any additional
reference source relevant to the particular project (For example,
Webster’s Medical Speller is used to proofread medical manuscripts.)
- Your house
style sheet (if applicable)
Why
We Do It
PROOFred
firmly believes that no matter how vast a writer’s knowledge, his or
her credibility is severely compromised when careless typos, misspellings,
or grammatical errors taint a written piece. There are grammar and style
rules that must be adhered to and we at PROOFred do just that!
Let us do the tedious work for you to ensure that what you’ve written
is accurate, professional, and free of embarrassing errors.
When
We Do It
PROOFred never sleeps.
Please contact us to schedule your next project.
Where
We Do It
PROOFred is headquartered
in a cozy little Chicago office painted (what else?) red.
Our clients, however, are scattered throughout the country.
